Vasco SC, Churchill share points; Calangute trounce YBT

Vasco SC staged a late comeback to come from 2 goals down to score twice in the final quarter to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw against Churchill Brothers FC in the GFA Goa Professional League at SAG ground, Benaulim.

Some might call it Churchill Bros’s inability to hold on to their lead, while others might acknowledge Vasco’s fighting determination to score twice late to secure a point from losing position, but the ultimate fact remains, Benaulim witnessed a thriller. 

Playing at their fortress, Churchill Brothers looked favourites wherein they started on attacking note and converting the attack into goal by scoring in the 6th minute through Borish Singh. The Red Machines then doubled the account just before the breather through Shario Gomes. It looked like one sided affair, but the second half was a transformed Vasco SC, who after their continuous pursuit, finally managed to pull a goal back through Lalnunzama in the 81st minute and then netted the equaliser in the stoppage time through Samaresh Mondal. 

Meanwhile, Calangute Association made the light work of Young Boys of Tonca with a 5-0 scoreline. Pedro Gonsalves put his team ahead in the game in the 33rd minute. That was the only goal scored in the first half.

Later, Joywin Carneiro doubled the account and once they were up by two goals; Calangute took total control and scored three more goals through Aman Govekar brace and a goal from Pandurang Gauns. 

 

In GFA Second Division, FC Goa scored a fluent 2-0 win over FC Tuem. Guirdolim Club and Curtorim Gymkhana played out a goalless draw. St. Anthony SC eased past SWC Zaino 3-0.  Carmel SC secured 4-0 win over Parish Youth Nuvem.

 

In GFA Division Three,  Ave Maira AwC took home three points and three points with a walkover as Wilred Leisure did not turn up to the venue. Ace SA registered a 4-2 win over CAC Cansaulim. Kevnem SC win nine goal thriller securing a 5-4 win over St. Mathews Azossim.

 

In GFA U13 Division II, Union of Chinchinim Villagers breeze past UC Orlim 5-2.
