Vasco Sports Club picked up their fourth win of the Goa Professional League season with a nervy 1-0 victory over Calangute Association at the SAG ground on Tuesday. In another match, Pax of Nagoa cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over Dempo Sports Club at Ella.

Vasco started brightly and grabbed the lead early thanks to a poor defensive lapse by Calangute. In the 5th minute, defender Joywin Carneiro failed to mark Nevil Menezes in the box, allowing the Vasco striker to head home a cross from the right, sending the Port Towners into early celebrations.

Calangute almost responded immediately, but Anuj Kuttikar's long-range effort flew harmlessly off target. The visitors continued to threaten, with Jovito Fernandes testing Vasco keeper Nabakumar Ghosh with a dangerous cross.

Vasco had a golden opportunity to double their lead just before halftime when Syed Hossain, who had replaced Nevil, fluffed a sitter from close range.

In the 51st minute, Calangute Domnic Fernandes and Jovito Fernandes combined beautifully for a one-two, but Domnic's shot from inside the box found the keeper directly. Vasco responded with a chance of their own in the 69th minute when Meitie was sent through by David, but once again, the Vasco attacker failed to convert a one-on-one opportunity.

Despite dominating possession in the second half, Calangute couldn't find a way past a resolute Vasco defense, and the hosts held on for a narrow 1-0 win.

Meanwhile, at Ella, Pax of Nagoa registered their second win over Dempo SC this season with a comfortable 2-0 victory. Shubert Pereira and Royal Oliviera scored one goal each in either half to condemn Dempo to their second defeat of the campaign, both of which have come against Nagoa.
