Three new clubs to be part of Goa Professional League

The Goa Football Association (GFA) President Dr. Caitano Fernandes revealed three news clubs will be part of the prestigious Goa Professional League. While two clubs have been granted the opportunity to participate in this year's edition, the third club will join the league from the 2024-25 seasons.

 

"We are thrilled to announce a major expansion of the Goa Professional League with the addition of three new clubs. Pax of Nagoa, Geno SC and Dattaraj V Raj Salgaocar submitted bids for direct entry in Goa Professional League. This marks a big day for Goa football, and we are confident that these new entrants will add fervor and competitiveness to the league," declared Dr. Caitano Fernandes during the press conference.

 

Pax of Nagoa and Geno Sports Club will be a part of this edition of Goa Professional League while Dattaraj Salgaocar’s team shall join the top tier league in 2024-25 seasons. Both Geno SC and Dattaraj V Raj Salgaocar have paid Rs 50 lakhs each being corporate clubs while Pax of Nagoa had to pay Rs 30 lakhs. 

 

Two clubs were expected to join the Goa Professional league. But the third club was unexpected.

 

Furthermore, the GFA has demonstrated their commitment to supporting referees and promoting the highest standards of officiating by increasing the referee remuneration by an impressive 30-40 percent from this season onwards.

 

In addition to the club expansions, the GFA has made significant strides in settling past dues, further underlining their dedication to ensuring the financial stability and growth of the league. Dr. Caitano Fernandes revealed that the association has successfully cleared the pending dues of the last four seasons, setting a strong foundation for the upcoming season.

 

The announcement also highlighted the association's proactive approach in securing sponsorships, with an expected revenue of Rs 3 crores from sponsors and other sources for the upcoming season. This financial support will be instrumental in enhancing the league's infrastructure and promoting the overall growth of football in the region.

 

Moreover, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the sport, the GFA has appointed Savio Medeira as a co-opted member, honoring him in the eminent player category which was vacant over the last one year.
