Sporting Clube de Goa secured a vital 1-0 victory over Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League (GPL) match held at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Tuesday.

Biswa Darjee emerged as the hero for the Flaming Oranje, slotting home the only goal of the match in the 29th minute. This win propels Sporting Clube de Goa to the third position in the GPL table with 43 points from 22 games played.

The encounter witnessed a strong start from both sides, with Calangute creating the first scoring opportunity. However, Sporting custodian Abhimanyu Singh, continuing his recent heroics, denied Calangute's Jovito Fernandes a goal.

Sporting gradually gained control of the midfield and capitalized on their possession in the 29th minute. Kunal Kundaikar delivered a precise cross into the box, which Jonas Colaco cleverly redirected for an unmarked Biswa Darjee to tap in from close range.

The second half saw Calangute pressing relentlessly for the equalizer. Richard Cardoz and substitute Kirtikesh Gadekar came close to scoring for the visitors, but their efforts were either off-target or well-defended by the Sporting defense.

Sporting also had opportunities to extend their lead in the closing stages, but Ivon Costa and Joyson Gauncar couldn't find the finishing touch.

The win keeps Sporting Clube de Goa in the race for the GPL title. Sesa FA remains at the top of the table with 45 points from 21 games, followed by Pax of Nagoa SC with 44 points from 23 games. Sporting, with two matches remaining, sits comfortably in third place with 43 points
