Sesa FA halted Geno FC's winning run in the Goa Professional League with a convincing 3-1 victory at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Saturday.
The scoring commenced when a Geno FC defender's errant clearance fell to Sankalp Kankonkar, who capitalized from close range. After the break, Omkar Shetgaonkar extended Sesa's lead with a powerful shot from outside the box, assisted by Kankonkar. Beckham Singh then added a third, nodding in a precise cross from Chaitan Dhabolkar. Geno FC managed a late consolation through Shekdon Pereira's half-volley from the edge of the area.
Coming off a win against Churchill Brothers FC, Sesa FA coach Charles Dias made a single change, introducing Rohan Kamble to strengthen the midfield. Meanwhile, Geno FC, buoyed by their recent triumph over Panjim Footballers, saw coach Yash Nagwe make two alterations, with Savio Pereira starting in goal and Suraj Gurung leading the attack.
Sesa FA started aggressively, aiming for an early breakthrough. Their efforts paid dividends in the 12th minute when a mishandled clearance from Omkar Shetgaonkar's cross fell kindly for Sankalp Kankonkar, who calmly slotted home from six yards out.
Geno FC responded with pressure, as Prajyot delivered a menacing cross from the right, but Sesa's defense held firm, clearing the danger with a crucial header.
Sesa FA nearly doubled their lead when Beckham Singh's low cross found Omkar Shetgaonkar at the far post, but his first-time effort sailed wide.
Early in the second half, Sesa FA extended their advantage. In the 57th minute, Sankalp Kankonkar teed up Omkar Shetgaonkar on the edge of the box, who rifled a powerful shot past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Despite Geno FC's efforts to mount a comeback, Sesa FA struck again. Chaitan Dhabolkar's precise cross from the right found Beckham Singh, who outjumped the defense to head home and secure the win.
In the dying moments, Geno FC pulled one back as Sheldon Pereira struck a well-timed half-volley from outside the box. However, it proved to be merely a consolation as Sesa FA sealed a comfortable 3-1 victory.
