Goa soar to top after edging Services 2-1

Goa produced a stunning performance to defeat Services 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash at the Santosh Trophy Final Round at the Golden Jubilee Stadium, Yupia on Sunday, leapfrogging them to the top of the standings.

Services started strong, pinning Goa back with relentless pressure but failing to convert early chances from Vijay J, Bikash Thapa and a strong showing from Samir Murmu. Despite the dominance, Goa grew in confidence, finding the breakthrough in the 70th minute through Lloyd Cardozo's header off a perfectly placed Jobern Cardozo cross. Substitute Joshua D'Silva sealed the win with a penalty after going down in the box in the 90th minute.

For Services, P Christopher Kamei's fine left-footed finish into the bottom corner in the 91st minute was only good for a consolation as Goa held on to the lead for the full three points.

This victory extends Goa's unbeaten streak to three games and takes them to the top of the table with 7 points, while Services remain second with 6 points.

Meanwhile, last season's finalists Meghalaya finally opened their tally in Group A as they drew 1-1 with Kerala.
