Dempo SC regain top spot; Cortalim, Guardian Angel SC play thrilling draw

Dempo SC regained their top spot claiming a 4-2 win over Sesa FA in the Goa Professional League at Dempo SC Academy ground, on Friday.

The development team of the Golden Eagles moved to 10 points from four matches while Sesa FA stay in fifth position with six points from equal outings.

Playing at their fortress, Dempo SC's development team, known as the Golden Eagles, asserted their dominance early on. The breakthrough came in the 34th minute from a well-executed set-piece. A freekick just outside the box was expertly taken by Joel Haokip. Although Sesa FA's Fazin managed to head the ball out, it fell perfectly to Pratik, who calmly slotted it into the back of the net, giving coach Remus’ side a crucial lead.

As the first half approached its conclusion, Dempo SC doubled their advantage just before the breather. Joel Haokip, the architect of the first goal, turned scorer himself with a powerful strike from inside the box. The SFA keeper had little chance as the hosts headed into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The second half witnessed a slower pace, with Dempo SC maintaining control. In the 80th minute, they further extended their lead when Joel attempted to score his second. Although his shot was initially blocked, Shreyash Naik pounced on the rebound, ensuring the ball found the back of the net.

Just when it seemed like Dempo SC would secure an easy victory, Sesa FA mounted a late comeback. In a dramatic turn of events, SFA was awarded two penalties within a span of four minutes. Joshua D’Silva stepped up to the challenge, calmly converting both penalties in the 84th and 88th minutes, narrowing the deficit to 3-2.

However, Dempo SC had the last say in the match. In the 90+5th minute, Faseen PK sealed the victory for the Golden Eagles with a decisive goal, securing the 4-2 win.

Meanwhile at Nagoa ground, Cortalim Villagers scored two equalizing goals in stoppage time to secure a point against Guardian Angel Sc. Guardian Angel SC had taken the lead in the 49th minute through Fulganco Cardozo. However Cortalim managed to draw level in the 90+5th minute. However, Guardian Angel SC regained their lead in the next minute through Godwin Fernandes. But there was more time for Cortalim to get the equalizer as they netted through Micheal Dias in the 90+9th minute.
