Dempo SC secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League on Saturday, with substitute Aaron Barreto scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute at the Ella ground.
The match, which resumed from the 14th minute after being suspended due to torrential rain on Tuesday, saw Dempo overturn an early deficit. Calangute's Akash Sanadi had given his team the lead in the 12th minute before the initial suspension, but Pruthvesh Pednekar equalized for Dempo in the 35th minute following Laximanrao Rane's assist.
Dempo dominated much of the play, hitting the woodwork twice through Shallum Pires and Vinay Harji, while also having a goal disallowed for offside when Shubham Rawat found the net in the 29th minute.
The second half saw Dempo maintain constant pressure, with several near misses from Daniel's set-pieces and crosses. Their persistence was finally rewarded when Barreto capitalized on a headed pass from Pednekar to tap in the winner just before full time.
Both teams fielded largely unchanged lineups from Tuesday's suspended match, with Calangute's only alteration being Sunny replacing the injured Melvin Lobo.
