Dempo Sports Club and Sporting Clube de Goa registered wins in their respective encounters in the GFA Goa Professional League on Thursday.

While Dempo SC downed Guardian Angel SC 3-1, Marcus Mascarenhas scored the only goal of the game for Flaming Oranje against Cortalim Villagers.

Sporting Clube de Goa, known for their flair, found themselves in a relentless tug-of-war against the disciplined defense of Cortalim Villagers. The Villagers' strategy to disrupt the rhythm of the match with a series of robust challenges paid off for the most part, as the first 45 minutes saw no goals.

The star of the match, Francisco of Sporting Clube de Goa, consistently broke through Cortalim's stalwart defense, only to be denied by the exceptional Francis Vincent in goal. Francisco's spirited efforts highlighted the intense pressure Sporting Clube exerted on their opponents, despite the unyielding defensive tactics employed by Cortalim Villagers.

The breakthrough came when Myron Fernandes' strategic throw-in found Mascarenhas, who displayed impeccable timing and skill to redirect the ball into the net at the death of the match. This moment of brilliance not only shattered the deadlock but also underscored Sporting Clube de Goa's relentless pursuit of victory, as they capitalized on their dominance in possession and territorial advantage.

At Benaulim, Gilbert Oliveira had put Guardian Angel SC ahead with a perfect volley. However, Dempo SC equalized from the penalty spot through Anish Gadar. Later Shreyash Naik and Aryan Poll scored in the second half to make it 3-1.

In GFA Third Division League Ilhas Zone, Bhagwati SC secured a 5-2 win over Merces Club to emerge champions of the zone. GFA Executive Member Laximan Hadfadkar was present for the trophy presentation.  In Mormugao zone match, Vasco City recorded a 2-0 win over Patrong SC.

In women’s league match, Compassion FC humbled Sinquerim SC 7-0.

In GFA U-15 Division I, Panjim Footballers got the better of Pax of Nagoa 3-1. Dempo’s Arnold Oliveira was named the player of the match.
