Clube De Salgaocar secured a valuable 2-1 victory against Sporting Clube de Goa in a tightly contested Goa Professional League Super League match at Duler Stadium on Tesday afternoon.
The Salgaocar took an early lead in the 5th minute when Boinao Singh found the back of the net, stunning the Flaming Oranje supporters who had turned out in numbers despite the afternoon heat.
Sporting responded quickly, with veteran midfielder Francisco Fernandes equalizing in the 14th minute with a well-placed shot that gave the Salgaocar goalkeeper no chance.
The teams went into halftime deadlocked at 1-1, but Salgaocar regained the advantage shortly after the break. The referee pointed to the spot in the 53rd minute after a foul in the Sporting penalty area, and Denil Rebello confidently converted the penalty to make it 2-1.
Despite pushing hard for an equalizer in the closing stages, Sporting couldn't break through Salgaocar's disciplined defense. The match saw a total of five yellow cards, with Alton Vaz and Dattaraj Gaonkar cautioned for Sporting, while Salgaocar's Sanij Bugde, Tipanna, and Wendell Coelho also entered the referee's book.
