Joaquim Goes was an attacking centre-half in the initial stages of his successful career. While Sheikh Aboo had a mighty kick, Goes excelled in heading. He was the captain of Vasco Sports Club when they won the First Division league championship for the first time in 1953-54. Goes was the top scorer for Vasco during this season with 29 goals.

 

After donning the Tata colours for a couple of seasons, Goes joined Salgaocar in 1957 and was the captain of the side when they won the First Division league Championship in 1960. Salgaocar defeated Vasco, 3-1 in the final of the Salgaocar Gold Cup tournament in 1957. He scored tWo goals and Authur Goes got the other.

 

Joaquim Goes started his coaching career with Salgaocar in 1963-64. He guided the team for two seasons and then coached Vasco Sports Club from 1966 to 1968. Vasco won the Kerala trophy for the first time in 1967. Goes was the coach of the Goa team that participated in the Nationals for the first time at Madras in 1964. He also coached the team for the 1971 National at Madras and the 1972 Santosh Trophy in Goa.
